The scope of this project involved upgrades to the water lines and other elements of the fire- water distribution system at MCAS Miramar. Work involved demolition, removal and disposal of existing piping and installation of approximately 10,500 lineal feet of PVC pipe with diameters ranging from 8” to 16” for the fire line servicing. Other elements of the project involved the installation of two (2) 500,00 gallon steel tanks, a masonry pump station building, electrical power, controls, relocation of the fuel line and water lines, removal of contaminated soil and incidental related work. The repairs were being performed on a critical element of the life safety systems in place at Miramar requiring development of and execution plan that assured availability of water that may be required for fire fighting activities and the safety of personnel working in facilities affected by the work. This project had numerous changes that resulted from differing site conditions, which could have severely impacted the overall schedule. RQ worked through these changes with the client in order to continue work and avoid costly delays that could have resulted in a major impact to the project. As a result, the project was completed in accordance with the schedule, which had been extended for six weeks upon discovery of the contaminated soil conditions and owner-requested increases of scope. RQ construction received a final evaluation of “above average” on this project.
