Every company begins with a first project, a first client, and a relatively small group of people willing to take a chance on an idea.
For RQ, those early years established more than a project portfolio. They began shaping the company’s approach to relationships, problem solving, and collaboration. With fewer people and resources, everyone wore multiple hats. Decisions happened quickly. Problems were solved by getting the right people together and figuring out a way forward.
The projects have become larger and the organization considerably more complex, but some of those early habits remain surprisingly familiar three decades later.

First Project
RQ's first project was the Operations and Logistics Support Facility at NAB, Coronado. Built right on the beach, this new 66,000-square-foot oceanfront facility served as a purpose-built hub for Teams 1 and 3, housing their training, gear storage, and administrative operations. The ground floor features 20 dedicated rinse rooms and wire drying cages, while the second floor holds 360 secure, custom-canopied gear storage cages alongside shower facilities. The top level includes modern classrooms, training areas, and office spaces. RQ managed complete turnkey construction for the project, delivering everything from site work, foundations, and high-performance building systems to the signature two-toned exterior paneling, surrounding security walls, and waterfront parking.

In our first few years of business, RQ was primarily working in Southern California. Our projects were located at several military installations, including MCB Camp Pendleton, NB Coronado, NAS Lemoore, Fresno ANG, the Presidio of Monterey, and Norton AFB.
