The Projects That Changed Us
Some Projects Build More Than Buildings
Every company has projects that stand out because of their size, complexity, or visibility. Others are significant for a different reason: they changed what became possible next.
These pivotal efforts reframed our capabilities, proving what can be accomplished when expertise meets ambition. For RQ, these milestone builds didn't just showcase what we could construct—they redefined how we grow, innovate, and serve our clients.
Naval Amphibious Operations Facility
NAB Coronado, CA | 2007
When RQ broke ground on the Naval Amphibious Operations Facility, the project marked a major evolutionary milestone for the company. While RQ had long established itself as a trusted builder, this project represented our first major design-build effort where architecture and engineering were led entirely by our in-house design team rather than outsourced to external partners.

WHY IT MATTERED
By taking total ownership of both the design and construction phases under one roof, RQ demonstrated a seamless, highly integrated approach to complex government projects. The success of this facility proved the value of an end-to-end design-build model - reducing friction, streamlining delivery, and ensuring elite quality for mission-critical client needs.
What started as a single project ultimately transformed RQ’s operational framework, laying the foundation for our long-term growth as a premier full-service design-builder.

MARSOC West Facilities
MCB Camp Pendleton, CA | 2008
The design-build MARSOC West Campus represented an ambitious leap forward in a familiar setting. Spanning 33 acres, this massive 229,000-square-foot, seven-building campus was purpose-built to support over 600 personnel from the Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command. Designed to handle a wide range of operational demands, the complex integrates a Headquarters Building, Academic Facility, Motor Transport maintenance facility, Paraloft, and high-security Armory.
Managing several active construction zones and vastly different building types simultaneously required rigorous logistics and precision scheduling—effort that paid off when RQ delivered the entire campus months ahead of schedule to a delighted client.
WHY IT MATTERED
The MARSOC West Campus marked a major turning point for RQ’s military portfolio. Successfully delivering a multi-facility campus with such diverse functionality, ranging from administrative offices and medical suites to tactical training rooms, maintenance shops, and storage, greatly broadened our operational expertise. Crucially, the project served as a foundational proving ground for RQ in SCIF (Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility) design, construction, and accreditation, establishing high-security credentials that continue to position us for complex defense projects today.

Fuel Pier and Truck Load Facility
NB Guantanamo Bay, Cuba | 2020
This comprehensive maritime project required the full demolition of an aging pier and the ground-up construction of a modern concrete fuel pier equipped with fender piles, mooring dolphins, a control building, a truck loading facility, catwalks, and a causeway transition ramp. Designed to accommodate heavy naval operations, RQ constructed an independent mooring system featuring cast-steel bollards, anchor bolt assemblies, an anchored bulkhead, and heavy rock rip-rap revetment. The scope also involved extensive dredging and sheet pile installation to accommodate larger vessels, along with complete site utility integration—including specialized fuel piping, ship hose service with spill containment, oily water collection systems, backup power generation, fire suppression, and potable water infrastructure.
WHY IT MATTERED
Marking RQ’s entry into Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, this project established our presence on the island and laid the groundwork for years of subsequent tasking. Executing complex construction far from the mainland tested and refined our remote logistics and material supply chains. Overcoming the unique operational challenges of an overseas installation established RQ as a dependable, versatile defense contractor capable of delivering projects in the Caribbean.
