Growing Beyond Home
The Regions That Built RQ
Growth doesn’t always happen according to a master plan. Sometimes it starts with one project, followed by another - and eventually a temporary presence becomes a permanent part of the company.
Southwest
Where the story began.
California is where RQ’s first relationships were built, its earliest projects completed, and many of the practices that still define the company first took shape.
As the projects became larger and more complex, the California operation grew with them. New capabilities were added, teams expanded, and the company’s presence within the federal construction market continued to develop.
Thirty years later, California remains more than RQ’s original location. It is the foundation from which much of the company’s growth began.

East
A project becomes a presence.
What began as one project in the East gradually became something much larger. In 2009, RQ was awarded a nearly $200M, eleven Bachelor Enlisted Quarters project at MCB Camp Lejeune with a JV partner. Shortly after, we were awarded an energy initiative project which provided photovoltaic parking canopies and ground-mounted farms at five areas of Camp Lejeune.
These projects were followed by a bachelor's quarters in Virginia and a health clinic in Maryland. As RQ took on this additional work in the region, it became clear that serving clients there required more than sending teams across the country. It required local relationships, local knowledge, and people committed to building a lasting presence.
Over time, those projects helped transform the East from a new market into an important part of RQ. And we are just getting started. RQ was included in the recent award of the NAVFAC MCI MACC, a $975M program for new construction, demolition, alteration, repair, and renovation projects in North and South Carolina.
Caribbean
Learning to build farther from home.
RQ was awarded our first project in Cuba in 2013 - a Fuel Pier and Truck Load Facility. Working in the Caribbean introduced challenges that went well beyond construction. Logistics, material procurement, transportation, workforce coordination, weather, and geography all required teams to think differently about how projects were planned and executed.
The lessons learned there strengthened capabilities that would prove valuable far beyond the region: planning earlier, anticipating constraints, and finding solutions when the conventional approach simply wasn’t an option.
RQ further expanded our reach in 2021 when we entered Puerto Rico with a Coast Guard project - the rebuild of a Resident Inspection Office.
Northwest
Moving North.
In 2013, we also won our first job in the Northwest: the Information Operations Readiness Center at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington. This $28.6M project set the stage for several other contract awards in the state of Washington. Although work in the Northwest tapered off for a bit, RQ is pleased to have been included in the NAVFAC Venti MACC - a $9B program awarded to a handful of contractors to perform new construction, renovation, and repair projects at various locations in the Northwest Area of Responsibility. We are excited to see the new locations this program will take us.
Southeast
Growing in the South.
In 2022, we broke into the Southeast with our first project in Florida - a Fitness Training Center at NAS Pensacola. Just a few weeks later, we were awarded an Entry Control Facility in Louisiana. Since then, RQ has added sites in Georgia and South Carolina, growing our influence in the SE sector.
