Corinaso Power Plant and Seawater Intake, Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba
The scope of work for the Combined Cycle Power Plant includes installation of gas turbines, air cooled condensers, Heat Recovery Steam Generator stacks, and steam turbines to erect a fully operational power plant. This project also included designing, furnishing, and installing the one-story, 6,336-SF Administration, Control, and Maintenance Building. The Administration portion houses and supports the day-to-day business operation of the entire facility; the Control/Server room is the main control room of the building and controls the entire operation needed to run the power plant’s fuel oil, fuel gas, and electrical; and the Maintenance/Warehouse area supports maintenance for the power plant and includes space for equipment repairs, welding, and storage for miscellaneous equipment parts.
The power plant’s seawater intake system includes a new below-grade rectangular reinforced concrete intake pump station, with the intake head foundation located at the seabed and supported by a reinforced concrete foundation, and a pre-engineered metal building pump house with concrete foundation. Seawater is pumped to the power plant systems and to the existing inlet of the desalination plant. The return of the water is discharged into an existing water intake system. The pump house serves to enclose the electrical and mechanical equipment.
