Naval Medical Center HVAC Repairs

HVAC and Ductwork Repairs, Naval Medical Center San Diego, California

The existing hospital heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) system was originally constructed in 1987. Many of the HVAC systems had deteriorated and did not meet the current hospital requirements. This project repaired, updated and cleaned the existing HVAC systems to meet facility requirements and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and America Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) standards. The project included temporary HVAC systems to maintain general hospital occupancy during the repair and cleaning work and related electrical and general construction work necessary to accomplish the HVAC system repairs and improvements.

Deficiencies in the air handling system included inadequate airflow, inadequate cooling and heating, and dirty / contaminated equipment. RQ's work included fan adjustments, ductwork modifications, increased fan motor sizes, AH-Unit replacement, mold remediation, installation of sound attenuators and UV lights, and cleaning, addition, and replacement of coils. Additionally, the existing ductwork systems were leaky, dirty, and showed evidence of contamination. RQ sealed, repaired, and leak tested the systems, removed existing liner, remediated existing systems, replaced flexible ducts, replaced insulation / internal liner, and rearranged existing exhaust discharge ducts to prevent recirculation of exhaust into air handling system relief air ducts.
