Renovations for Buildings KL, KM, and KQ, Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia
RQ has completed the design and construction of this design-build project which featured the renovation of three 4-story bachelor quarters totaling over 75,000-SF. Renovation scope featured full interior, exterior, and systems replacement. A new hydraulic elevator was installed for each building. Each bachelor quarters unit received new walls, ceilings, doors, lighting, plumbing fixtures, finishes, and related mechanical, plumbing, electrical/telecommunications, fire sprinkler, fire alarm mass notification, and security systems.
Existing fire sprinklers were replaced, relocated, or supplemented as needed to meet the new floor plan layout. All control valves were provided with new tamper switches monitored by the fire alarm system. A new enclosed trash dumpster was provided with double metal gates to be used by all three buildings. In addition, the project was retrofitted to conform to anti-terrorism/force protection provisions and life safety codes. Landscape and site features include plants and shade trees, patios, sidewalks, pedestrian lighting, benches, and bike racks. Sustainable design features were also incorporated, acquiring a LEED rating of Silver.
