Wallace Creek North BEQ and Armory Complex, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina
This multi-story, multi-wing BEQ complex - built by the RQ-Brasfield and Gorrie JV - consists of 402-room modules and a 650-vehicle, multi-story parking garage. Ancillary structures at the BEQ include recreational and drying shelters, equipment cleaning areas, as well as athletic courts and landscaped courtyards. The parking garage includes a high-efficiency PV array for generation of electricity for use by the facilities constructed under this contract.
The centralized Multi-Purpose area promotes equal and effective circulation to/from all living units. Cathedral ceiling spaces create higher element roof lines that connect the multi-story wings and break up the massing. Group gathering is promoted by the Multi-Purpose area and social amenities that are attractive to BEQ personnel. Flexibility is maximized by providing large, open, column-free spaces and areas that may be re-configured or made smaller for private functions, meetings, or operational group training. The Multi-Purpose space features a large theater area, meeting area, lounge area, laundry rooms, game areas, kitchenette, social nodes, and covered patio. The MPR acts as the active central social space for the Marines, providing an internet café, video gaming, audio-visual theater, and kitchenette.
