Message from George

2020, a year that will go down in infamy! Is that too strong a statement? It doesn’t feel like it. It is almost impossible to review the entire year in this issue of the Flywheel. Perhaps we should have written about this year, quarter by quarter. If fact, in the week that I have procrastinated writing this issue, the state of California is taking rather draconian measures effecting business, particularly small business like restaurants, putting many out of operation.

It is so easy to let that go in one ear and out the other. These are families running some of our favorite businesses are becoming welfare families. It is very hard to fathom, and it is in that context that we at RQ count our blessings. While many in the construction business are trying to figure out where their next project is going to come from, we are trying to figure out how to do twice as much work on top of our best year ever. Our Flywheels of the past year have considered this as it was happening and we are still in crazy times. But what I am trying to say that with all of the blessings that have been bestowed on us, it seems that we should be focused not just on ourselves and our families but also applying those blessings to help others less fortunate. It seems that good fortune doesn’t just happen. All of you in RQ have made this happened by your loyalty, hard work and smart work. I also attribute it to He who controls things that we Don’t control.

I know RQ has been successful when the Admiral who is in charge of all NAVFAC schedules a phone call with me for the first week of January. RQ has recorded new milestones in revenue, profits, and backlog. RQ is growing markets people and capabilities. RQ is consistently being told it is the first choice of our customer. This isn’t by accident. If we achieve the same thing in 2021, that too won’t be by accident. It will be intentional and only through continued hard work will we be able to sustain our successes in 2020 into 2021.

I thank God for all of you. May we take the momentum that we have and carry it through 2021. There is no rest for the weary and now isn’t the time to coast. The future looks turbulent in many ways, but I am confident that working together, we will continue the story that you all have played out in 2020. God bless you all!
